Tell us how you did! Win great prizes!

You've completed the program! Yeah! Good for you! Now what?

Did you know that when you Get Movin' you can win some great prizes?

It's easy! Just tell us in four or more sentences how Get Movin' helped you to be more active this summer and you could win! Prizes include a Wii Fit or one of two hiking prize packs like this one donated by the USDA Forest Service.

We want to know what you did to Get Movin' this summer. Did you ride your bike to the park? Splash in the water at the spray park? Take a hike in the mountains? Or run with your dog on the beach? How did you use your rewards coupon? Maybe you climbed the rock wall at REI or Vertical World, went swimming in one the participating pools, or cooled off with some ice skating during those hot July days. Be sure and tell us what your activity level was like before Get Movin' so that you can see how far you've come! Click here to download the entry form.

And when you're finished, GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY!!!! We want you to stay movin' even it is fall and school has started!

Don't forget to submit your entry by September 30th!

Everybody Needs a Playday!

The wonderful people over at KaBOOM! want you to get out and PLAY! That's why this September, they are presenting the 2010 Play Day! These national days of play are designed to raise awareness to the importance of play and will take place across the country September 18th-16th, 2010.

"KaBOOM! Play Days are part of a national movement to bring play back into the lives of children by activating communities across America to celebrate and improve the quality of play. Play Days help build awareness for the importance of play, empower individuals to become advocates of play, improve the quality of playspaces nationwide, strengthen communities and bring good-ol’-fashioned fun to every corner of the country."

To find a Playday near you, go to the KaBOOM! website. Or start one of your own! Anyone can start a Play Day; church groups, schools, community centers, even families. And KaBOOM makes it so easy for you with a complete toolkit online to help you plan your Play Day, including ideas for activities, games, improvement projects and more. The Play Day Planner also allows you to connect with others planning a Play Day so that you can share ideas and resources. Many of the Play Day events include a service project component to improve your playground. By using the Play Day Planner, you can apply for grant funding when you include an improvement project in your event.

The Boys and Girls Club of America is one the sponsors for the KaBOOM! Play Days. So if you live in the Everett area, and you're looking for a Playday to attend, The Everett Boys & Girls Club, one of Get Movin's partners, will be hosting their own Play Day event on Friday, September 24th at Wiggums Hollow Park.

They will be working with a volunteer team from the Everett Herald to clean the park as part of United Way's Day of Caring from 12:00-1:00 pm. Then from 1:00-3:00 they will be host a variety of games for the neighborhood kids such as kickball, basketball, relay races, and much more. Go on! Help the volunteers clean up the park and then stick around for some great fun!

Get Dancin' and Celebrate National Dance Day

There are so many great things about dance! It's active, fun, there's no equipment needed, anyone can do it, and it's FREE!!!

Fox Network's So You Think You Can Dance executive producer and judge, Nigel Lythgoe, has declared this Saturday, July 31, NATIONAL DANCE DAY and Congresswoman, Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a long-time proponent of healthy lifestyles, will introduce a National Dance Day resolution at a press conference on Saturday, to promote dance education and physical fitness across the U.S.

From the SYTYCD blog here is the rundown on National Dance Day:

WHAT: NATIONAL DANCE DAY, a grassroots initiative that encourages the nation, young and old, to move! Individuals, families, organizations and communities from across the nation come together through their creative expression in dance. Any style of dance is welcome and imagination is recommended in order to get the most out of this celebratory day.

WHEN: Saturday, July 31

WHY: To continue to generate national awareness for dance, a medium of expression and storytelling which, through shows like So You Think You Can Dance, has proven its value in bringing individuals from all walks of life together through a positive platform that has no boundaries and cultivates imagination and passion. Most importantly, the day is intended to promote health and wellness nationwide.

Here are several ways you can celebrate National Dance Day and Get Movin' at the same time!

Why not try out a ballroom dance class in your area? Or a Zumba class? Now that's a workout!  If you have registered for the Get Movin' program and met your goals this week, you can use one of the many reward coupons in the Playbook - there are several with a dance theme!

Have you ever seen a flash mob? Check out this one perfomed in Seattle this spring. If you think it's fun to watch, you should try participating - it is an experience not to be missed!
One Degree Events, the same group who organized this Glee Flash Mob, is hosting another "Dance Flash Mob" in Seattle this Saturday to celebrate National Dance Day. Anyone can participate, all you need to do is RSVP to the event, practice the moves in the video on their Facebook page (or attend a rehearsal - there's one tonight!) and then show up at the designated time and place (they will send you a message via Facebook.)

Also the SYTYCD group is hoping that you will show them your dance moves! This dance routine has been specifically designed by the Dizzy Feet Foundation for National Dance Day! Learn this routine or make up your own, film it, and post your videos here on their FB page.

If you do decide to share, we'd love to see your videos too! You can upload them to our Facebook page, or come on back to our blog and post a comment with a link to their page! Don't forget to show your support of the Get Movin' program and wear your t-shirt!

Whatever you decide to do for National Dance Day, just be sure to have fun and Get Movin' to some music!
