Everybody Needs a Playday!

The wonderful people over at KaBOOM! want you to get out and PLAY! That's why this September, they are presenting the 2010 Play Day! These national days of play are designed to raise awareness to the importance of play and will take place across the country September 18th-16th, 2010.

"KaBOOM! Play Days are part of a national movement to bring play back into the lives of children by activating communities across America to celebrate and improve the quality of play. Play Days help build awareness for the importance of play, empower individuals to become advocates of play, improve the quality of playspaces nationwide, strengthen communities and bring good-ol’-fashioned fun to every corner of the country."

To find a Playday near you, go to the KaBOOM! website. Or start one of your own! Anyone can start a Play Day; church groups, schools, community centers, even families. And KaBOOM makes it so easy for you with a complete toolkit online to help you plan your Play Day, including ideas for activities, games, improvement projects and more. The Play Day Planner also allows you to connect with others planning a Play Day so that you can share ideas and resources. Many of the Play Day events include a service project component to improve your playground. By using the Play Day Planner, you can apply for grant funding when you include an improvement project in your event.

The Boys and Girls Club of America is one the sponsors for the KaBOOM! Play Days. So if you live in the Everett area, and you're looking for a Playday to attend, The Everett Boys & Girls Club, one of Get Movin's partners, will be hosting their own Play Day event on Friday, September 24th at Wiggums Hollow Park.

They will be working with a volunteer team from the Everett Herald to clean the park as part of United Way's Day of Caring from 12:00-1:00 pm. Then from 1:00-3:00 they will be host a variety of games for the neighborhood kids such as kickball, basketball, relay races, and much more. Go on! Help the volunteers clean up the park and then stick around for some great fun!
